Fashion Sense Of The First Ladies Of Politics

All eyes in the fashion world are focused on the presidential tour of Europe as First Lady Michelle Obama brings a new spin on the fashion sense of the First Lady. We have perhaps not seen this much attention on the fashion sense of the First Lady of the US since the days of Jackie Kennedy. Every meeting that Michelle Obama is attending with the President is being scrutinized under a microscope as the fashion world is all a buzz with every outfit that the First Lady appears in.

I think that the last woman to get this much attention from the media and the fashion world in general was Princess Diana. Michelle Obama is looked as an extension of the President of course so every choice she makes is being watched from what designers she is using to how much each article of clothing costs. The media attention is especially high right now as the Obama’s are on their first tour to Europe as the President and First Lady of the US. They are meeting their peers from countries around the globe as the G20 summit is convening.

Michelle Obama has stuck to her personal choices in terms of choosing designers that fit her body type and her personal style. Most comments in the fashion world concerning her fashion sense is that of sensible and chic with a style that is very accessible to the every day woman. Some of her more frequent choices in terms of style comes from the J. Crew line of fashion and Cardigans.

Another First Lady that is getting a lot of attention from the fashion world is Frances equivalent to Michelle Obama and that is the First Lady of France Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. She is the relatively new bride of Frances President Nicolas Sarkozy, she is a singer-songwriter and former model from Italy. Needless to say with her modeling background the expectations for her fashion sense have been a little higher in terms of high end designers like Christian Dior.

It’s these two First Ladies that have really stepped up and met the challenge of bringing back the glamour of fashion back to the political arena. I really can not remember a time at least in my life time when so much attention was given to the fashion sense of women in positions of political power. Like I said earlier the only thing that you can compare it to over the last twenty years or so is all the attention that Princess Diana received with every outfit that she ever wore.

Seriously I see legitimate news sources reporting on the fashion sense of Michelle Obama in terms of what she is wearing at big events like the G20 summit.  From what she wore when she met the Queen of England to meetings with other Presidential equals from Russia, Britain and Brazil. These two First Ladies of politics have brought the fashion sense of politics back to the forefront in the fashion world.

On that note I am curios to find out what other women of politics in the past do you think have gotten as much attention for their fashion sense as Princess Diana, Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy? The first and most obvious first lady that comes to mind for most of us I am sure is Jackie Kennedy. From what I remember from my lifetime and historical recollection is that Jackie Kennedy was really the first woman of politics that became a media darling for her fashion sense. What other women who were known for the political circles they traveled in were also known for their fashion sense as well?
